What we are is God’s gift to us, What we become is our gift to God.” (16th century proverb) The opportunity to educate a child in one school, from grade 00 to matric, is a vision to which many parents and educationalists aspire. Marist Brothers Linmeyer, which offers an excellent education, fine facilities, devoted staff and a Christian environment, makes a “one school” education possible. Our College has its roots in the Marist tradition of the Catholic Church. Founded by St. Marcellin Champagnat in 1817, the Marist Brothers schools are internationally recognised as part of a vibrant, global education system, providing holistic education to their students, ensuring that they are equipped for the demands of responsible adulthood. In 1889, the Marist Brothers established the first boys’ school in the mining town of Johannesburg in Koch street. This school was moved to its present site in Linmeyer Johannesburg, in 1966. The altar in the school chapel is the one that was used at the Koch Street School, a constant reminder of our humble origins. The ethos of the Marist Brothers permeates every aspect of school life. In a family atmosphere of Christian love and care, Marist Brothers seeks to enhance the religious, intellectual, physical and social development of each pupil. Special emphasis is placed on solid moral standards, together with self discipline, justice and service to the community. It remains our aim that each individual at Marist Brothers will come to know God within an environment where all people, irrespective of cultural, language or religious differences, are respected and appreciated. Marist Brothers Linmeyer is managed by two principals (primary and high school), assisted by their respective management and academic staff. The Primary and High Schools operate on two separate campuses with shared sportfields. SPIRITUAL Our religious education programme is designed to suite the needs of our students as part of the secular society in which we all live. Daily spiritual education is provided via the formal curriculum that includes preparation for first holy communion and confirmation in accordance with diocesan policy. Marist Brothers provides it`s students with a sound spiritual foundation on which to base their daily lives. Regular masses and religious services are a part of the daily life of the school. EXTRA-MURALS Involvement in extra-mural activities is encouraged to further foster the ideals of team work and support that are a part of our Marist tradition. Emphasis is placed on involvement and personal accomplishment, within the broader intention of inter-school competitiveness. Numerous cultural societies exist to cater to the needs of students whose interests extend beyond the playing fields. These include such diverse activities as pottery, chess, photography, wildlife and the co-worker outreach groups, to name but a few. Students at Marist Brothers are given the opportunity to participate in numerous sporting activities and are coached by qualified instructors or professional coaches. Many sports are offered at inter-school level, with students often representing their area or province.
